It’s all about me
I have always lived in Nottingham. I never really had a hobby until I discovered photography. I bought my first ‘proper’ camera in 1993. From that day I was hooked. Then came the hard part, learning to take photographs. I tried to do this alone, reading all the magazines and books that I could find in libraries, bookshops and newsagents.
My photography changed direction after joining a camera club. This made me realise that I wasn’t as good as I thought I was. Seeing other people’s work I decided I had a long way to go. However, being part of a camera club gave me access to the knowledge and skills that they contain. I have (in my own opinion) improved considerably in the past few years. Thanks must go to the people who have helped me over this time.
In 2008 I entered a competition on the TV programme Countryfile. I was delighted when I was contacted to say that out of over 30,000 entries I was one of the 12 finalists. My photograph was to be part of the Countryfile Calendar 2009 being sold in aid of Children In Need.
In June 2009 I was offered the opportunity by the magazine Outdoor Photography to visit Ludlow Castle with a professional photographer and instructor Phil Malpas. The photographs taken that day were published in the September issue of the magazine.
I continue to submit photographs to NEMPF (North & East Midlands Photographic Federation) competitions and exhibitions. In the 2009 competition I was awarded ‘Best Monochrome Print’ for my entry which was one of my favorite photographs of a Calla Lily.
I enjoy photographing landscapes and the natural world, but in my own way. I enjoy travel and walking, but always have my camera at hand. You never know when the perfect image will present itself.
